The Mendocino is a new step-through electric bike from Schwinn. The lower-cost e-bike has been designed for commuters taking shorter rides in urban areas. A 250 W brushless motor can assist you at speeds up to 20 mph (~32 kph), with several assistance levels on offer.
The 313 Wh battery, mounted beneath the rear rack, provides up to 45 miles (~72 km) of range on a single charge. You can recharge the battery in around four hours via a standard wall outlet, and you can change gears using a handlebar-mounted six-speed twist shifter. The e-bike has mechanical disc brakes, 180 mm at the front and 160 mm at the rear. Plus, the electric bicycle has a KMC chain and Shimano Tourney rear derailleur.
The Schwinn Mendocino has a vintage-style 6061 aluminum frame, with the bike weighing 66 lbs (~30 kg). The maximum payload of the vehicle is 300 lbs (~136 kg), with the rear rack supporting up to 55 lbs (~25 kg). The e-bike has been launched at the discounted price of US$1,299.99; the bicycle will retail for US$1,599.99 in the future. The bike will shortly be available in the US in Grey, Mint and Slate (dark blue); the frame is one size fits all.
