Accell Hunland, the manufacturer of bicycle brands such as Haibike, Ghost, Winora, Lapierre, and Raleigh, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the foundation of its factory in Tószeg this week, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal.

The foundation stone of the factory was laid on June 1, 2001, and a year later the first bicycle rolled off the newly completed production line. Accell Hunland was the first to start e-bike production in Hungary in 2009 and now produces pedal-sensor or torque-sensor electric assist versions of all types of bikes, be it city bikes, trekking bikes, or mountain bikes. Tószeg is one of the four main assembly bases of the group.

The event was attended by Francesca Gamboni, chief supply chain officer of the Accell Group, who praised the prominent role of the Tószeg factory.

"Accell Hunland is the first and still leading e-bike manufacturer in the country, which, in addition to its economic role, has been contributing to the development of Hungarian and European cycling culture for 20 years. The representative of the group pointed out that the COVID-19 epidemic has increased the demand for cycling and environmentally friendly transport solutions across Europe, resulting in billions of euros of investments being made across the continent," Gamboni said.

She added that cycling can also be an important player in the post-pandemic social and economic recovery based on green solutions, as it is a reliable, clean, and environmentally friendly transport solution "Cycling is becoming a fundamental part of transport in modern societies and will be even more so in 10 years' time. Cycling is the key to living in more liveable cities and contributes to the physical and mental health of road users. This is why the state is playing an increasingly important role in promoting cycling, for example through e-bike and e-cargo support programs and by supporting employees' commuting to work," said Máriusz Révész, Government Commissioner for an Active Hungary, who also congratulated the company on its achievements and successes over the past 20 years.

The host of the event, Accell Hunland managing director Béla Szabó-Lukovszki said that in the past 20 years, Accell Hunland's Tószeg factory has undergone numerous improvements and expansions, not only to increase production volume but also to benefit the employees. And this process is not over yet, the company is already working on several new development plans. In the long term, this will require the acquisition of additional new equipment, putting it into production, new investments, as well as technological and staff development.
