Folding electric bicycles won’t take up much space, and you don’t need to bother to ride because of the heat. Therefore, they are very suitable for commuting. Their benefits don't stop there. This is the best in the range of 1,000 to 2,000 pounds. If your budget is outside this range, check out our broader guide to folding electric bikes.

Let's take a look at some details first, because buying a folding electric bicycle may require more consideration than a non-folding electric bicycle.

The goal of the game is to keep it small and light, so folding electric bicycles often have 16-inch or 20-inch wheels. (The measured value is the diameter of the wheel plus the tire.)

Smaller is not necessarily better. Although 16-inch wheels result in a smaller folding "wrap", 20-inch wheels tend to provide a more comfortable ride experience. As with most things related to bicycles, this is a trade-off. You must weigh the quality of the ride with the need to stuff things into the train luggage rack (or anywhere) to decide which wheel size might be more suitable for you.

Small wheels are also easier to accelerate, but they are less efficient at maintaining speed. In many ways, this makes them great for unimpeded traffic, but maybe your journey doesn't stop as you think. In addition, the steering may feel a little shaky when using smaller wheels-although you will get used to it very quickly.

This basically comes down to the derailleur and the hub gear. The transmission is lighter (hooray!) but more refined (shhh!). The latter attribute means that if you are trying to store your bicycle in a small space while taking another form of transportation to complete a journey, they are not always ideal.

Conversely, hub gears are stronger and require much less maintenance—but they are heavier. Even simpler, you can also find fixed gear options.

Most folding electric bicycles simply fold in half. The frame is hinged in the middle, and then the seatpost and handlebars are folded down to further reduce the size.

However, some bicycles fold in more than one place, and as you might imagine, this usually means that the bicycle will eventually become smaller.

For electric bicycles, mid-mounted motors are usually more popular. This is not the case with folding electric bicycles, because the increase in weight is very significant and cannot be ignored. Hub motors are lighter, and they are less likely to hinder folding-so this is usually what you will find.

For the same reason, batteries tend to be smaller. If you need an electric folding bike with a long range, in addition to buying a bike with a larger battery, another option is to buy a spare battery and take it with you.

When it comes to folding bicycles, the most famous name is probably Brompton. However, Brompton electric bicycles are above the price ceiling of this article. The Cytronex Brompton electric bike conversion kit costs £1,145-but you do need to get a bike to use it, so this is not eligible.

This means we have to look elsewhere. Annoyingly, one of our previous favorites has recently increased in price. If you can afford it, FLIT-16 is still a very good choice, but it is now £2,500, so it is no longer considered. Here are the best electric folding bikes we have reviewed in this price range, followed by some other options that are also worth considering.

MiRider One is a stylish single-speed "folding" folder, equipped with a relatively small 187Wh battery in its unusually shaped magnesium alloy frame.

The 2021 version of the bicycle has been upgraded to a lighter rear-wheel motor, which is said to provide 40Nm of torque. There is also a very convenient throttle trigger, which is especially suitable for hill starts.

In terms of weight, MiRider One weighs 17.65 kg. The folding speed is fast, using 16-inch wheels, and the final result is a package of 67 cm x 66 cm x 43 cm.

All in all, it is great, full of sports fun and great value for money.

With a 20-inch wheel design, the folded Raleigh Stow-E-Way is slightly bulky at 89 cm x 66 cm x 45 cm, but it is easy to fold and still weighs only 20.15 kg.

The bicycle has a 245Wh battery and a high-quality electric assist system, which can provide stable and strong power.

You can also get LED lights, mudguards and brackets, and the rack is integrated with the frame and is very strong.

If you are looking for a foldable electric bicycle that rides well and can carry a considerable amount, then Stow-E-Way will definitely appear on the list.

Axon Pro 7 is currently discounted at £2,000 for the Black Friday style, with a magnesium alloy frame and 16-inch wheels, and a claimed weight of only 15 kg.

There are integrated lights and horns, hydraulic disc brakes and a claimed folded size of only 76.5 cm x 64 cm x 25 cm.

Using a 7Ah battery, this is clearly designed as a short-distance car (with a claimed cruising range of 48 kilometers), and it is light enough to ride a train effortlessly.

We have tested and really like several other electric bicycles from Volt. Regent is a truly high-quality city bike. We tested Infinity a few years ago, which is a high-end hybrid car with complete specifications.

Volt's folding electric bicycle is Metro. (There is also a low-end Metro LS at the same price.)

It weighs 19.5 kg, is equipped with a 250-watt SpinTech motor and a sizeable 400-watt-hour battery.

You can also get a frame, fenders, hydraulic disc brakes and an ABUS frame lock.

When folded, it is 84cm x 76cm x 46cm.

Rad Power is a brand that tends to provide almost unparalleled value in terms of electric bicycles. The prices of their RadRunner multi-purpose bikes and RadWagon cargo bikes are very different from competitors of the same specifications. Their folding electric bicycle is RadMini, and they have just reduced the price by 200 euros.

It weighs 30 kg, which is quite heavy compared to the competition, and the folded size is also larger, 104 cm x 71 cm x 55 cm.

This is largely because the bike has a 672Wh battery, which the company estimates can travel more than 50 miles. This is used in conjunction with a 250W in-wheel motor capable of generating up to 80Nm of torque. You can also get seven gears, rough tires, mudguards, mechanical disc brakes and LED lights.

All in all, RadMini is definitely the end of performance better than portability, you may know whether it is suitable for you.

Another Raleigh-this one is sold exclusively through Halford.

Evo is described as the "ultimate convenience solution" for commuters looking for convenient travel. It has 20" wheels and a simple folding mechanism, which folds to a size of 88 cm x 80 cm x 40 cm.

Equipped with 250W rear wheel TranzX motor and 238Wh battery, it weighs about 20kg.

You can also get 8-speed Shimano Altus gears, fenders, racks and V brakes.

Height is usually the problem. Your bike does not need to be taller than brompton 585mm when folded-mi-rider seems to be only 575mm, so it might fit.

Unfortunately, you need to be aware that many train luggage racks are sized for brompton, and there is no other one. Especially the Hitachi 800 class train which replaced the old intercity wedge train.
